Understanding Crown and Bridges and their difference from dental implants

Apparently, dental services accounted for the largest share of benefit payments by private health insurers (the Australian Government Health Department reported that dental services accounted for 51% of total benefit payments by private health insurers at $1.79 billion in 2011–2012 Was.) Dental treatment in particular is very expensive, yet important for good oral health.

Different types of restorative dental treatment include: dental implants, crowns and bridges. These types of treatments help restore your natural smile while preventing future oral health problems. This is done by restoring damaged teeth or replacing missing teeth.

Crown

Of all restorative dentistry, as well as all other dental treatments, crowns are the most expensive (the Australian Government Department of Health reported that during 2012 the average dental fee for a crown among privately insured Australians was $1,397.98). This is because such restorative treatments require advanced skills, specialized materials, and equipment.

A crown is basically a tooth-shaped cap. It is placed over the natural teeth to provide protection to the damaged teeth. Crowns not only look like natural teeth but are just as hard.

There are many instances in which you may need a crown. The International Dental Foundation recognizes some signs you should pay attention to:

a. Cracked teeth usually require crowns. If your teeth hurt when you bite, you probably have a crack in your tooth. This requires restorative treatment, as the crack will not heal.

b. The extent of the crack will also determine the extent of treatment required. Full-coverage crowns will be necessary in cases of vertical cracks reaching up to the gum line. However, cracks extending below the gum line will require crown lengthening or additional treatment, such as root canal therapy or even an extraction. After extraction, a dental implant can be applied.

c. If your tooth has discoloured, a crown may be inserted to hide such discoloration.

d. A combination of crown and bridge shall be inserted for the purpose of holding the bridge or dentures firmly in place.

e. Crowns may be needed if you have large teeth filled. This is because fillings can cause cracks in your teeth; So, the crown will help protect your teeth.

f. You should also differentiate between crack and cynicism. Eccentric lines are simply tension lines that usually do not require crowns, as they do not affect the structural integrity of your teeth. It may only need to be whitened. However, a deep wound or a very long eccentric line can be a sign of developing cracks. Your dentist is better able to identify such subtle differences and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Bridge

Cases of missing teeth are usually treated with a dental bridge. It is useful in covering the gap between the teeth. Such treatments are useful not only in improving your appearance, but also in keeping other teeth in good shape.

Dental implant

If you have missing teeth, dental implants may be the best option for you to restore a full set of teeth. In this treatment, metal anchors of dental implants are inserted deep into your jawbone. After that, a false tooth is placed over it, creating a tooth that is as strong as a natural tooth.
